Pray For Your Enemies

Pray

Our world is in such utter chaos and it causes me so much anxiety at times. The other day, I was reading my scriptures and realized, there are so many similarities of how the people then felt, and how I feel.

The story that stood out to me was Enos’ story of faith. Enos was an ancient prophet that prayed to Heavenly Father and asks him to preserve some records.

“For at the present our strugglings were vain in restoring them to the true faith. And they swore in their wrath that, if it were possible, they would destroy our records and us, and also all the traditions of our fathers.” (Enos 1:14, emphasis added.)

This scripture explains a group of people, the Lamanites, and their relation to Enos and his people. The Lamanites were Enos’ enemies. They wanted to kill him and his people and destroy their tradition of believing in Heavenly Father and Christ. Yet, Enos still prayed for them.

”11 And after I, Enos, had heard these words, my faith began to be unshaken in the Lord; and I prayed unto him with many long strugglings for my brethren, the Lamanites.

12 And it came to pass that after I had prayed and labored with all diligence, the Lord said unto me: I will grant unto thee according to thy desires, because of thy faith.”

Heavenly Father listened to Enos, just as he listens to us. According to our faithfullness, miracles can happen through Heavenly Father and Christ. As story goes on, it tells of the Lamanities coming unto Christ, and the records being preserved.

Our World is in Chaos.

So much chaos. Many people are standing up for what they believe in; which is great! A lot of this is through violence, which will never really win. As I have pondered on my role in all of this, I get so anxious. So many tragedies could happen. I have let this swell up inside of me and it has made me very scared. But, that is what they want right? To put terror in us?

While feeling anxious and scared I read about Enos, and decided to pray for the people who are my “enemies”. People who I fear could make bad things happen. People who are dealing with the chaos with violence. Even my own self at times. Heavenly Father will help us understand our role and how we can act in a positive way to make the world better. I would rather deal with the chaos with real strength and power; with Heavenly Father and Christ. They will always win, though it be through Heavenly Father’s timing not ours.

My Soul Does Rest.

Enos wrote this after he had prayed;

17 And I, Enos, knew it would be according to the covenant which he (Heavenly Father)  had made; wherefore my soul did rest.”

My soul rests as I pray for my enemies.
