There is nothing I love more than reading about amazing girls and women, who with faith, courage, and determination conquer the obstacles that face them. The heroins in these books, whether in a fictional story or real life examples, inspire me to be better. I can honestly say that this young girl you see on the front cover of this book did that for me. I am not sure how many of you have heard about Malala but she is worth learning about. She is the youngest person to EVER receive the Nobel Peace Prize! That should get your attention right there, but her story is even better. She is a Pakistan native who fought for a woman’s right to receive an education! She did this despite the increasing threat of the Taliban. Her fight to receive an education changed the world! On her way home from school one day her bus was stopped by the Taliban and she was shot in the face. But this hasn’t stopped her from being an advocate and starting the Malala fund that helps others receive their education! Besides the story’s main theme, it showed the power of family (especially the love of a father), the push for peace, and her desire to live in harmony and acceptance of people of all faiths. These messages of hope really strengthened me. Malala’s courage and example ignites in me a desire to be a little stronger in the obstacles I face, or maybe, it encourages me to STAND! She would tell me not to fear. And with that message I can change the world in the way God has planned for me!
Powerful story, inspiring girl, amazing read!!!
In Malala’s words (quoted from the book)”I don’t want to be thought of as the girl who was shot by the Taliban but as the girl who fought for education, the girl who stands up for peace, with knowledge as her weapon. …one child, one teacher, one pen, and one book can change the world!”
PS: I bought and read the young readers edition so that my kids would be able to read it. “I am Malala” is written in adult version too!
PSS: There is a great 16 minute interview she gave with Jon Stewart. It is worth the watch on you tube!
