Last night as I was patting my little girl’s back, exhausted and hopeful that she’d fall asleep quickly, my mind started drifting off and soon image after image of the crippled legs, stiff hands, disabled bodies, and crooked smiles I saw in Haiti flooded my mind.
It seemed like almost simultaneously, I was thinking about the miracle of the resurrection and what a glorious day that will be when the amazing spirits trapped in these crippled bodies will be whole again. I imagined the joy they’ll feel when they can run and jump and give high fives again! It will be so joyous!
My mind immediately came back to me, to all of us. Don’t we all feel disabled, crippled, stiff, crooked, and broken at times? I know I do. I need my Savior each and every day.
Because of Christ’s atonement and resurrection, we can all be made whole. Whether it’s physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual disabilities we are struggling with, it doesn’t matter, Christ can heal us and make us better than we were to start with! With His grace, our faith, our humility, and our efforts, we can make the miraculous transformation from disabled to disciple! We may not be able to lift all of our physical ailments in this life, but as soon as we choose discipleship, Christ can perform miracles for each of us, just as He did while He was on earth. He can heal our mental, emotional, and spiritual, and often physical disabilities, but we first have to follow Him. We have to be willing to give up our will, and trust His.
I know that Christ lived and died for us and that He lives today! I know without a doubt that all of our disabilities can turn into possibilities with Christ’s help!
We may not be stuck to a wheelchair or bedridden everyday, but throughout life, we are bound to be stuck. Stuck with no way to get out without reaching up to Christ and asking God to help us out.
We are all on different journey’s to the same destination. We all have disabilities, in one way or another, that slow us down and discourage us, but if we turn our hearts to Christ and allow Him to lead us on our path, we can experience the miraculous transformation that we are all here to experience and that is to overcome our disabilities and become disciples of Christ!
He has already paid the price. He wants to help us. We just have to let him!
