It’s hard to summarize and describe in words these incredible life changing trips. This was our first time going to Guatemala, and it exceeded all expectations. It was wonderful!
We stayed in guest housing at an orphanage. There are just over 20 kids at this orphanage ranging from 6 months to 13 years. We instantly fell in love with some of the kids, and by the end of the stay, we were in love with ALL of them! Leaving those kids was one of the hardest parts of the trip. They are such good kids full of love, gratitude, and acceptance.
Our two focuses for this trip were to offer medical services and education camps for the orphanage and nearby villages. We offered two medical clinics each day in different locations, as well as two education camps.
Witnessing such humble gratitude for things we so easily take for granted in our daily lives really opens your eyes and changes your perspective. The Guatemalan people are so happy with so little. Seeing a doctor is a privilege not an obligation. They will gladly wait hours without complaint. Everyday at our educations camps, we saw eyes light up and smiles fill the room. They were excited and grateful for every little thing we did for them.
The Guatemalan people have changed us and we can’t wait to go back in future years!
